Hot Water Systems

Hot Water Systems

The Sunshine Coast beach breeze can wreak havoc on our hot water systems, causing degradation from salt exposure. That's why we always recommend high quality systems that are best suited to your location.

If you're having issues with your hot water system, there's no need to put up with it any longer. Whether it be poor water flow, leaks, temperature issues or it has just died, give us a call today to help diagnose, install, relocate or relace your system. It's also a good idea to have your hot water system serviced every 5 years to ensure it's running as efficiently as possible. This is important as most manufacturers require you to replace certain components every 5 years (including the expansion control valve, pressure temperature relief valve and anode) to keep your manufacturer's warranty intact. We can assist with any maintenance in this respect.

We can assist you with the maintenance, repairs and installation of the following:

  • Solar hot water systems

  • Electric hot water systems

  • Reticulated hot water systems

  • Instantaneous electric hot water systems

  • Heat pumps

  • Hot water system valves and components, including duo valves, cold water expansion valves, tempering valves, thermostatic mixing valves, expansion control valves, pressure temperature relief valves and anodes.

The QBCC have reported that up to 40% of hot water installations have failed to meet the required standards. Mountain Tides Plumbing can assess your current set up and advise and quote on a brand new, energy-efficient system that suits your budget, lifestyle and home.

Stormwater & Sewerage

Stormwater & Sewerage

If you've got a blocked drain, need some repairs done, or want to upgrade your stormwater drainage so that it can cope with the Sunny Coast's wet season, we're here to help.

Blocked drains

Blockages in your stormwater or sewer drainage are common household problems, particularly as a result of ageing drainage systems. Not only can blockages produce bad odours, but they can also result in more significant health problems arising from contamination, backing up of water, spreading of germs and attracting vermin.

Factors that can lead to blocked drains include:

  • Flushing foreign objects (i.e., anything other than toilet paper) down your toilet

  • Pouring fats and grease down the kitchen sink, and not using a strainer for food scraps

  • Build-up of hair and soap scum in your pipes

  • Invasive tree roots

  • Cracks in pipes leading to a build-up of dirt and debris.

Using a water jetter and a CCTV drain camera, we'll diagnose any issues with your blocked drains, work to remove the blockage and provide honest recommendations if additional work is required.

Stormwater drainage repairs, maintenance & upgrades

Water near buildings can cause major structural issues, promoting degradation of the structure and creating ideal conditions for termites. Maintaining your stormwater drains is therefore extremely important, as it helps prevent property damage and flooding, as well as pollution.

Some maintenance tasks that you may be able to perform yourself include cleaning your gutters leading up to the wet season (generally summertime at the Sunshine Coast) and inspecting your downpipes to make sure they're flowing freely. Ensuring all stormwater pits, channels or gullies around your property are clean and free of debris so that they're operating at their full capacity will also assist in alleviating pooling of water during a rain event.

Signs that your stormwater drainage may not be working as well as it should include:

  • Obstructed drains and pits, which may be broken or blocked with debris

  • Patterns of soil erosion

  • Flooded garden beds

  • Overflowing gutters

  • Downpipes that discharge water on the ground (rather than into a stormwater pit or kerb and gutter)

  • Cracked concrete, paving and walls

  • Recurring puddles and mud patches.

Contact Mountain Tides Plumbing if you're in need of repairs and maintenance or are looking to upgrade your stormwater drainage system. We can also assist with the installation, repair or maintenance of rainwater tanks and pumps, which can help reduce water bills, provide an alternative water supply during water restrictions, and help maintain a green, healthy garden.

Sewer drainage

A sewerage system is the entire network of pumps, pipes, or mains used for collecting wastewater. If they are not built correctly or maintained appropriately, they can cause a problem for not only the environment, but also for the health of yourself and the community.

In the event of a sewerage surcharge, an overflow relief gully, or 'ORG', is designed to pop up and release excess sewer water from the network. Typically, every property is required to have an ORG and it is important that yours is well maintained and functioning properly, to ensure that dirty water does not back up inside your home in the event of an emergency.

Ensuring your sewerage system is designed and installed correctly the first time is extremely important, as accessing it later to fix an issue can be difficult and expensive. You can trust Mountain Tides Plumbing to get it right! We're here to help you with the following:

  • Laying new sewer lines for new builds or extensions

  • Replacing old clay or earthenware pipes with DWV PVC pipes, which won't crack from tree roots

  • Repairing broken sewer lines

  • Installing new ORGs and disconnector gullies

  • Installing sewerage treatment systems (i.e., septic tanks) in non-sewered rural areas

  • Ensure sewers are vented appropriately to maintain water seals.

Water Efficiency

Water Efficiency

If you decide to rent out your property, one important thing to consider is whether you have the ability to pass on the costs of water consumption to your tenant. Obtaining a Water Efficiency Certificate from Mountain Tides Plumbing may allow you to achieve this.

A Water Efficiency Certificate is a document that states that a particular property is certified as water-efficient and can only be issued by a fully accredited and licensed plumber. In accordance with the Queensland Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Regulations 2009, the following key conditions must be met in order for a property to be considered water-efficient:

  • The premises must be individually metered. It is important to note that certain unit complexes will not meet this requirement

  • All toilets must have a dual flush function not exceeding 6.5 litres on full flush and 3.5 litres on half flush. Additionally, they must have a maximum average flush volume of 4 litres (based on the average of 1 full flush and 4 half flushes)

  • All internal cold water taps (excluding bathtub taps and taps for appliances) must not exceed a maximum flow rate of 9 litres of water per minute. Note that the requirement for taps applies only to internal cold water taps that are installed over a hand basin, kitchen sink or laundry trough (including single mixer taps). The requirement does not apply to other taps in the premises such as bathtub taps, outside taps for the garden, or taps which supply washing machines or dishwashers. These taps are not required to be water-efficient

  • All shower heads must not exceed a maximum flow rate of 9 litres of water per minute.

Mountain Tides Plumbing can work with you to ensure your rental property is water-efficient. This may involve:

  • The installation of aerators to restrict the flow of water

  • The installation of flow restrictors in taps

  • The installation of flow restrictors behind tap spouts

  • Upgrading outlets and taps to prevent leaks.

Call us today if you're looking to obtain a Water Efficiency Certificate for your rental property. And remember, ensure that your tenancy agreement sets out the requirement for a tenant to pay the cost of their water consumption.
